Dear Mo,

We received some great feedback from the May issue!  Please continue to let us know what works with you and how we can make this as valuable as possible.

It is an honor and privilege to offer our readers information and ideas that may help them from time to time.  In fact, my fascination with time will be an integral part of each e-zine, as I think, like me, everyone gets too involved in using time effectively and efficiently, and not expertly.  Expert use of time means it is respected and balanced throughout your whole life, so that you never waste time worrying about wasting it!

Please take a look at all the contributors to the e-zine!  Each is unique and offers great value in assisting success in others' businesses.

Respectfully,

Mo Aiken Speaks on Identity Theft at the May 2007 Rio Hondo District Legal Professionals Association Program

Moformal-sm

Mo Aiken was the guest speaker for the Rio Hondo District Legal Professional's Association on May 24, 2007, in Whittier, Calif.

The program defined what identity theft means and how it occurs, as well as the effect it has on the victims who experience it.

The session also covered the impact that identity theft has on the consumers individually and collectively, and reviewed approaches that legal professionals can take to deal with this trauma.

"We all have met someone who has been affected by this very serious problem," said Aiken.  "My own experience in this subject prompted me to research identity theft extensively and through the educational process as well as speaking opportunities I offer hope and real solutions to help those affected," Aiken concluded.

Entrepreneur to CEO: Growing with the Business
By:  Howard Fletcher
          HFletcher

As part of a series, this article addresses issues important to the entrepreneur who wants to start, finance and build a company of significant size and value. It discusses the personal transition an entrepreneur must make as his or her company evolves from a simple, informal organization into one that is structured and complex.

Read the entire article - intended for the entrepreneur who wants to create a comfortable living and be his or her own boss until retirement, though such persons may certainly  get something of value from it.

The Killer "App"

By: David G. Rohlander

                                     davidrohlander

Many companies, especially the startup type, are seeking to define and implement their "KILLER APP," which is short for their killer application that will set them apart from and ahead of any possible competition in the marketplace.

A couple of years ago I was at the Riviera Country Club in  Pacific Palisades, California at a Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA) www.lava.org, meeting to hear the US vice president of Nokia www.nokia.com. He started his presentation with a joke. It was about the way Nokia was going to create the newest and best KILLER APP.

Basically, he explained that the majority of the time people don't really need their cell phones for anything significant and most people used their cell phones to kill time while waiting or driving or generally to alleviate boredom. Nokia was going to solve this problem by providing extra games and applications to be used on the cell phone - one that was MORE than just a phone.

Another view of KILLER APP is promoted by Tim Sanders in his book, LOVE THE KILLER APP, www.timsanders.com. The book suggests that we give away three things.

1. Knowledge

2. Network

3. Compassion

Precious Time

Mo Aiken

Time is precious!  It usually takes a precipitous and emotionally charged experience to get to realize how much more precious time is than almost anything!

Many stories are based on near-death situations causing major changes in our lives (e.g., Scrooge).  Real life presents more mundane, but equally challenging experiences that make us change our ways. A mild heart attack often brings a type A personality "back to the dinner table."   Most people's epiphanies are never as glorious and poignant as the movies and stories!

However, that old saw that no one on their deathbed seeks more time at work, really reflects the balance we must achieve with our time to have a satisfactory existence.

Spend your time as though it as valuable as it possibly can be!  Make choices between work, family and community so that you are always proud of who you are, and what you do. A good test is to explain to those competing for your time what the other proposition is for the same period of time.  Their response indicates some interesting things:

  • They concur that the other activity is paramount
  • They cannot accept that they were not paramount
  • They do not understand why you want to do the other activity
  • They don't share same values
  • They share the same values but do not agree with your choice

Of these positions, which is likely to be the best long-term fit for your life and business?  Of course, it is those who understand (even if they do not agree) your values are shared!  They are aligned with you and thereby do not waste your time!

Balancing your time is critical to balancing your life and health!

"By assisting us to design and integrate a release process and schedule of support, Mo Aiken recommended a customer focus group and newsletter to help us better communicate with our clients.  Within two release cycles, customer complaints went down and errors and fixes diminished by 2/3.  QA passed releases with fewer assigned fixes and our customer satisfaction improved dramatically."
