Collective Names

One of the craziest oddities of the English language is that there are so many different collective nouns that all mean "group" but which are specific to what particular thing there is a group of: a herd of elephants, a crowd of people, a box of crayons, a pad of paper, etc.

There is great diversity of collective nouns associated with animals, from a sleuth of bears to a murder of crows. The following is a list of the correct terms to describe groups of various types of animals.

If Your Company Is So Unique...Why Is Your Sales Force Automation Software Still "One-Size-Fits-All"?

Don McNamara

We often work with folks who tell us their company is very unique, and in many cases they are right.  It's easy to recongize unique selling propositions, unique service delivery and unique products, whether their markets are unique or if their sales processes are different from the norm.

And yet, when employing their Sales Force Automation (SFA)/Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software solution, companies generally attempt the implementation literally right "out-of-the box."

Time is our most elusive resource!  Once gone it is beyond our ability to recover.  Therefore, it is imperative to get the most out of it!

Easy to say, hard to do!  Few of us have working crystal balls that can tell us how things will come out in advance.  So, we take risks with our time and do things hoping there will be a positive result.

With some effort, you can likely calculate the probability of one appointment over another, and you can use other decision factors to help choose which alternate places will yield what kind of result.  Many people are very successful using tools combined with intuition that result in some repeatable returns.

Invariably, it always seems that when you ask most successful people to highlight the defining moment of that opportunity, they often relate a story of serendipity!

Therefore, if there are no high-quality, objective metrics to establish choices in a conflict over your time, you must resort to subjective tools.  One of which is the "how does it feel" tool.

Quite often our subconscious helps us feel that one choice, despite logic, is the most favored.  I suspect that this choice is based on criteria that we really haven't considered objectively, but it is just as valid all the same.

A very good reason behind "going with your gut" is that you are most likely to make the decision that feels the most enjoyable.  This will likely be the best choice as you are presenting yourself to others in your most open and straightforward manner.  Your projected demeanor will not only translate into a positive first impression and reflect you at your best.  AND you will have a good time!

" . . . people who keep dogs (or cats for that matter) live longer on average than those who do not.  This is not some kind of pro-canine campaigning fantasy.  It is a simple medical fact that the calming influence of the company of a friendly pet animal reduces blood pressure and therefore, the risk of heart attack."
